Seminar Topics

The variety of canine sports and the number of dogs participating in those sports has exploded in the last 15 years. Veterinarians and other animal health professionals should be aware of the unique injuries experienced by canine athletes participating in different sports and new options for therapy, including the burgeoning field of canine rehabilitation.

In this seminar Dr. Zink will provide tips for evaluating canine structure and the suitability of individual dogs for canine sports.

She will reveal critical differences between the gaits of dogs and horses and why this is important in canine sports performance. Tips and tricks for detecting subtle lamenesses in canine athletes will be provided. Dr. Zink will describe evolving athletic injuries in dogs such as medial shoulder instability and iliopsoas strain including surgical options, treatment and rehabilitation. The seminar will conclude with a discussion of canine rehabilitation options and the importance of rehabilitation in the recovery and retraining of canine athletes.
