In Memory of each of our members who passes away, the MVMA donates toward the purchase of a book for the Veterinary Medical Library at the University of MN to commemorate their career and honor their life.
Personal memorial contributions can also be made to the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Foundation in honor of a family member, friend or colleauge. A recognition letter is sent to the honored's family.

2014 Memorial Updates
Dr. Sam Allen, 69, of Wayzata, MN, passed away on January 8, 2014. Born in Oblong, Illinois, he was the son of Samuel Otho and Lucile (Leggitt) Allen. Sam was a graduate of the U of Evansville IN; the U of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine; the U of MN in Comparative Dermatology; and interned at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Allen founded the Northwest Animal Hospital in 1975 and practiced general medicine, as well as his specialty of dermatology and allergy. He served on many veterinary boards and was president of the MN Veterinary Medical Association and the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Service. He was a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology and the Academy of Veterinary Allergy. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the MVMA. Dr. Allen was active in his church and his community as a sponsor of youth sports teams and Chamber of Commerce activities. He loved gourmet food, fine wine, gardening, travel and Lake Minnetonka. He is survived by his wife, Jan (Janis Bierod), of 45 years, and children, Samantha and Kirk. A memorial service was held at Wayzata Community Church, 125 E Wayzata Blvd. in Wayzata.
