![]() Dr. W. Mark Cousins, received his DVM degree from Louisiana State University in 1980. After obtaining his DVM degree, he spent an additional two years obtaining post-graduate training courses encompassing strategic business skills and planning at the Veterinary Management Institute at the Krannert School of Business at Purdue University. He received his boards in feline medicine from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2000, recertified again in 2010, and a third time in 2019. Additionally, he received certification in veterinary acupuncture from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society as well as certification in pain management from the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAS). He opened his first veterinary hospital Chateau Veterinary Hospital, in 1983 and sold it in 2013. He started New Orleans’ first feline practice in 1987 and practices there exclusively. This practice, The Cat Practice, won a Veterinary Economics Hospital of Merit Award in September 2005. He has lectured nationally and internationally for several pharmaceutical corporations such as Zoetis, Elanco, Merial, Idexx and others. Dr. Cousins has served on several boards such as the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association, Louisiana SPCA, and was Feline Exam chair of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the American Heartworm Society and represents feline medicine in this organization. His knowledge and passion towards feline medicine make him an excellent role model and resource for other small animal practitioners interested in the feline portion of their practices.
