Wednesday, September 7 from 12 pm-1 pm-Rabies Update: New Guidelines for Rabies Pre-exposure Vaccination Plus an Interactive Rabies Fun Quiz to Test Your Knowledge

Learn about new national guidelines for rabies pre-exposure vaccination involving fewer vaccinations and titer checks than previously recommended. This will make it much easier and more economical for veterinary personnel to be rabies pre-exposure vaccinated and stay updated. In addition, just for fun and to spark discussion, there will be an interactive quiz on Minnesota rabies facts, and various rabies scenarios and the proper course of action.

Joni Scheftel is Minnesota’s State Public Health Veterinarian, and she leads the Zoonotic Diseases Unit at the Minnesota Department of Health. Dr. Scheftel’s group is responsible for zoonotic disease surveillance, outbreak response and outreach, including rabies consults following animal bites or bat exposures. Rabies consults are available 24/7 to veterinarians in the state as part of a shared surveillance system involving the BAH, the VDL, the MDH Public Health Laboratory and the Zoonotic Diseases Unit. Joni lives in western Carver County with her husband in an old schoolhouse, in the area where she was a mixed animal practitioner for nearly 20 years.
