Wednesday, October 5 from 12 pm-1 pm-New Recommendations for Monitoring Transfer of Passive Immunity in Dairy Calves
Colostrum management has long been recognized as a cornerstone of a successful youngstock rearing program. A valuable service veterinarians can provide to assess the success of this program is by monitoring transfer of passive immunity (TPI) in dairy calves. This herd level testing can be done using convenient and inexpensive indirect tests such as serum total protein (STP) or serum brix (%) measures.  In past decades STP guidelines aimed for a simple pass/fail, with a common goal being that at least 90% of calves tested achieve a STP value of 5.2 g/dL or greater.  However, recent research has demonstrated that, in the case of TPI, 'higher is better'.  In this webinar you will learn about new consensus standards for monitoring TPI in dairy calves, when using STP or serum brix testing, and we review the basic components of a successful colostrum management program needed to achieve these new goals.  Plenty of time will be available for questions, discussion, and for participants to share their own tips for success with the group.
