Wednesday, October 5 from 12 pm-1 pm-New Recom
mendations for Monitoring Transfer of Passive Immunity in Dairy Calves
Colostrum management has long been recognize
d as a cornerstone of a successful youngstock rearing program. A valuable s
ervice veterinarians can provide to assess the success of this program is b
y monitoring transfer of passive immunity (TPI) in dairy calves. This herd
level testing can be done using convenient and inexpensive indirect tests s
uch as serum total protein (STP) or serum brix (%) measures. In past decad
es STP guidelines aimed for a simple pass/fail, with a common goal being th
at at least 90% of calves tested achieve a STP value of 5.2 g/dL or greater
. However, recent research has demonstrated that, in the case of TPI, 'hig
her is better'. In this webinar you will learn about new consensus standar
ds for monitoring TPI in dairy calves, when using STP or serum brix testing
, and we review the basic components of a successful colostrum management p
rogram needed to achieve these new goals. Plenty of time will be available
for questions, discussion, and for participants to share their own tips fo
r success with the group.
