Hydrolyzed Diets: Theory, Practice, and Real-World Experience
Stephanie Warren, DVM, Scientific Services Veterinarian, Royal Canin

Pet foods that contain hydrolyzed protein ingredients have been very successful over the past 20+ years, and even life-saving in some cases. Yet veterinarians may not know exactly how and why these diets are formulated, and how to best use them for cats and dogs with various health issues. In this presentation we will discuss the concept of hydrolysis and how hydrolysates are incorporated into pet diets, performing elimination diet trials and review the research studies in which hydrolyzed diets were used.

Dr. Stephanie Warren is a Scientific Services Veterinarian for Royal Canin, serving as a scientific liaison between the veterinary community and Royal Canin throughout the Midwest. After graduating from the University of Illinois, Stephanie worked in small animal general practice in Chicago, IL, where she further cultivated her love of nutrition that began early on in her college career. Stephanie is passionate about the key role nutrition plays in preventing and managing disease in companion animals, so she is thrilled by any opportunity to share nutrition knowledge and practical applications with colleagues. Stephanie and her family, along with their two dogs, Copper and Lua, call Downers Grove, Illinois home.
