Veterinary Technicians are crucial to the day-to-day operations of veterinary practices, and play vital roles in the care of animal health and welfare. National Veterinary Technician Week provides an opportunity to recognize veterinary technicians' contributions to the profession.

Monday, October 14-Understanding Components of Home Care Products

Maria Nellessen, BA, CVT, VTS (dentistry), Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association and Midmark Animal Health
This presentation will include a general review of different dental home care products available through veterinary clinics and over-the-counter products.  Main ingredients of the home care product will be discussed in relation to the prevention of periodontal disease. How to promote home care products while using effective client education will also be reviewed.

Maria has worked in various private practices and the veterinary dentistry department at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center. For ten years, she was an instructor and academic advisor in the Veterinary Technology program at Argosy University.  In 2017, Maria received her VTS in dentistry, and is currently serving on the credential committee with the AVDT.  She works part-time at MVMA (Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association) as a systems and credential coordinator, volunteers for Leech Lake legacy, and provides training and education through Midmark Animal Health as well as private clinics and veterinary technology schools.
