Minnesota Veterinary Technician Certification Renewal Requirements to Maintain Certification:

10 Continuing education credits are required per 2-year cycle of renewal (Certifications are based on odd & even year schedules).

Currently, we are processing certification renewals for 2020. If you submitted a certification renewal, please allow 6-8 weeks for processing. After 9/30/2020 (extension granted due to COVID-19), there will be a $40 late fee and five penalty credits incurred and renewal submissions will need to be mailed to our office. Click HERE how to submit your 2020 certification renewal. For those of you renewing in 2021, there will be no changes to the renewal deadlines and submissions will begin on December 1, 2020. 


Before you renew:

1. Review Continuing Education Guidelines and MN Vet Tech Renewal Requirements
2. Assess CE certificate(s) to determine medical vs non - medical and interactive vs non - interactive. ***Please add your name and date on ALL CE certificates.
3. Submit an itemized list of CE courses for state and national conferences (if CE certificate states medical and non - medical).
4.  If applicable, fill out Non-Preapproved (In-Hospital) CE form.  *Maximum of 3 in-hospital credits allowed per MVMA guidelines for recertification.

Two Options to Renew: 

1. Online Option:

    • 2020 certification renewal is now closed. 

    • 2021 renewal will open December 2020.

2. Mail Option:

  • 2021 Renewal Form (a $15 processing fee is applied to all mailed 2021 submissions)
      • Pay $90.00 Renewal Fee
      • Complete the 2021 CE Report Form and attach copies of your CE Certificates (DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS). Please list courses attended on the form. You must be detailed and complete the form in its entirety. Incomplete forms will not be processed.  Credits for renewal must be obtained within the current certification period:

The credentialing subcommittee will review individual submissions received and reserve the right to ask for additional documentation and/or deny any CE courses/credits. You will not receive new certification materials until your renewal has been reviewed and accepted by the committee. 

**Please review the Continuing Education Guidelines carefully. It is the responsibility of each technician to submit the required credits for renewal **

Please note: The recertification process is NOT part of MAVT's (Minnesota Association of Veterinary Technicians) member fees.
