Tuesday, April 11-Beyond Bland: Nutritional Management of Gastroenteritis and Pancreatitis
Stephanie Warren, DVM, Scientific Services Veterinarian, Royal Canin

Gastrointestinal disease is common in clinical practice, ranking year after year among the top complaints that clients seek veterinary care for. In this presentation we'll tackle the question of what to feed patients that are experiencing gastrointestinal upset by reviewing the functional role of nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract, defining a “bland diet”, and discussing nutritional management principles for commonly encountered gastrointestinal disorders.

Dr. Stephanie Warren is a Scientific Services Veterinarian for Royal Canin US, serving as a scientific liaison between the veterinary community and Royal Canin throughout the Midwest US. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 2016, Stephanie worked in small animal general practice in Chicago, IL, where she further cultivated her love of nutrition that began early on in her college career. Stephanie is passionate about the key role nutrition plays in preventing and managing disease in companion animals, so it was a dream come true for her to join Royal Canin and share nutrition knowledge with her colleagues. Stephanie and her family, along with their two dogs, Copper and Lua, call Downers Grove, IL home.

Tuesday, May 9-Compounded Medications and Their Role in Veterinary Medicine
AJ DeLorenzi, MBA, Regional Manager of the Eastern half the US, Wedgewood Pharmacy

Through compounding, veterinarians can utilize a broader variety of strengths to treat all sizes of animals, ease the burden of medicating using multiple delivery methods, and increase compliance by adding flavoring to medications. Compounding can also fill the gap when a commercially manufactured medication goes on back order. The FDA has finalized GFI #256, Compounding Animal Drugs from Bulk Drug Substances (BDS). This means that some of the ways veterinarians order compounded medications will change. There are ways to protect access to compounded medications, alleviate unwanted stress on treated animals (and their caretakers), and provide solutions to common medicating issues encountered in veterinary care.

Over the last decade at Wedgewood Pharmacy, AJ has consulted with thousands of veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and staff, to deliver solutions for some of their biggest challenges with medication dosing options and availability through compounded medications.  These consultations have led to countless new formulations offered by Wedgewood Pharmacy and have supported the needs of veterinarians when treating companion animals, exotics, wildlife, and endangered species. AJ is currently the Regional Manager of the Eastern half the United States for Wedgewood Pharmacy. In this role he leads an account management team of twenty-seven employees, with accountability for 29 states.  AJ is a graduate of the University of Miami, with a degree in Psychology and graduated with honors from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College, with a Master’s in Business Administration.
