2023 Lunch 'n Learn Series In the last several years, many multi-species studies have started to elucidate molecular, immunologic and microbioloigic drivers of periodontal disease and stomatitis in dogs and cats, respectively. This presentation will provide a summary of recent studies and known mechanisms. It will also provide recent learnings on how veterinarians can help clients to manage companion animals with established disease. Lastly, this presentation will also provide data and best practices on preventative measures that veterinarians can take in the clinic and recommend for at-home care. Emily Stein, Ph.D. is a microbiologist with deep expertise in infection and inflammatory disease who has a profound understanding of the impact of the microbiome on overall health. She earned her B.S. in microbiology and immunology from the University of Iowa and her Ph.D. in microbial biology from the University of California at Berkeley. She then spent 7 years at Stanford University as a Medical Research Fellow in Rheumatology and Immunology. In 2008, she began developing Selective Microbial Metabolism Regulation Technology (SMMRT)®, a biofilm-based technology that safely and naturally leverages bacteria and their behaviors to our advantage, resulting in improved dental and overall health. 1 interactive CE credit - Click here to register! |
